I have a small lamp, new-ish, that has a very long cord. I'd like to shorten it. Is it better to do so at the bulb end or the plug end. Which is best and/or easier? Could I get a new plug at HD and put it on the shortened cord? This cord has a on/off switch in the middle of the cord, closest to the bulb end. This is for a residential, and is not-heavy duty at all. Thanks!

- Best way to shorten the cord from a lamp
Either way would work. As long as the socket is the conventional type with the screws that tighten down on the wires as opposed to something that is not seviceable. I would take it apart and shorten the cord from the socket end, that way you don't have to buy a new plug. Make sure you pay attention to the polarity of the cord. Hot goes to the center of the socket and neutral to the outside threads of the bulb.
