I'm currently having blueprints draftd for a custom-built house.... hopefully our retirement home. We'd like to have a couple of dormers, but prefer they be brick rather than wood or vinyl. I've seen brick dormers in Europe, but not in the US. Can anyone tell me if they've seen brick dormers built in US houses, and what special considerations should be taken into account when building brick dormers?
Thank you,
Tim W.

Tim,
In a word....Boston !!
Specifically,...Cambridge, Somerville, Newton, Brookline, Wellesley, Concord. All these cities have homes scattered around the sidestreets. Churches and old schools are a good look for dormers too. Also up and down the charles river on Storrow Dr. side.
I`ve re-roofed a hundred of them and for good looks and watertightness, go with the one piece window sill, ( Granite or Bluestone ) and simulate a keystone arch at the headers
