I would like to paint the support posts/beams/roof boards inside my barn (now an antique shop). The wood is 100+ years old and has never been painted. My husband is convinced that painting it now will trap in moisture, causing it to rot more quickly. Is this true? Are there techniques to prevent that? Thank you for your expert opinion and advice!

Wood is wood, and if you have been keeping it in fairly good condition you will be fine.
