What is the practical value of rain gutters?

My house is in the shape of a "U."

The area between the arms of the "U" has been roofed over and is now a large utility room.

I'm wondering if there would be any benefit to be had if I put rain gutters on the inside eaves of the "U."

The gutters would hardly be seen from the outside of the house.
