My old house has a cross-hipped type roof with shingles and metal sheeting around the bottom overhang. There is no ventilation, little insulation on attic floor and alot poorly crammed in the rafters and sealed with plastic. Every winter I have ice almost a foot thick and occasionally leaks in the one side of the house. I have only owned this house a few years and know there will be some serious problems before long. I have had several contractors give solutions that range from installing a reflective insulation board at $6000 to a complete new roof. At this point I dont trust a single one and unsure if anything can be done. Please help me to find the right contractor with the right solution.

size matters as the insulation is a simple area = cost calculation.
See what insulation in your area is going for then figure out the cost.
You may be able to do the labor yourself. Contractors are not as in demand as they were six months ago so if you go to a service magic or Angie's list you should get quotes very quickly.
