I have ice sickles forming between the gutters and the wrapping and soffit. There is also water dripping through the soffit bleed holes as well as some of the siding bleed holes. The gutters are still attached but I want to make sure this is a "normal" thawing process or if I should contact a professional to remove some the snow/ice from the roof. We have had an unusal amount of snow over the past week (two feet!).
At the start of the roofing is a metal dripedge, the fascia wrap goes under that, but...the ice and water barrier should go over the fascia wrap to prevent the ice in the gutter from getting under the dripedge and behind the fascia wrap. That is what I see happening. Also the soffit should be pitched away from the wall, so the water don`t run to the wall after getting through. Icesicles leaning inward are the clue. Water getting behind the gutter will come out the bottom of the gutter if the top of the back of the gutter is not caulked.
Alway rake that much snow off the first three feet of the roof. It alows the water to travel too fast to freeze, like the house in the backdrop, you`ll get iceicles but it wont back up. Ice melt cables in the gutters and pipes only, should keep the water moveing down to the ground.
