we plan on having new carpeting installed in our basement but befor that is done we would like to install a subflooring for a dry air space and minor moisture protection for the carpeting.

we vaguely remember a program about using 2X4's and some type of wood flooring before the carpet is installed. Please help!!!

Yes, you want to use pressure treated 2x4's. Space them 16 inches apart. You want them level, so shimming may be necessary.

Put rigid foam insulation between the 2x4's for both insulation and sound deadening properties.

Cover with tongue and groove 3/4 inch plywood. Stagger the seams.

A large public library may have a copy of the show you saw. I believe its from the 1980's series.
