Over the weekend we suffered a power outage causing our sump pump to fail. I have two questions. Does anyone know of a reliable back up system to power a sump pump in the case of a power outage? Secondly, now that the water has been vacuumed from the carpet in the basement we are beginning to get a very bad odor. Can someone give me some help in removing this odor? I might point out that our basement does not have any outside ventilation source such as windows.

Lowes (and others I'm sure, I just got mine there)sells a backup sump pump for around $100. It is basically a big boat bilge pump that runs off a deep cycle battery. The kit itself comes with a trickle charger, float switch, pump, battery box. Basically everything but the battery. As far as running your existing pump, how about a small generator?

nascar3 Thank you for that information. We always frequent Lowes so I will check it out.
