I have been trying to solve this problem but have failed.

The odd thing about my situation is that the problem only occurs on the
north side?

Please check out the pictures and let me know if you have any ideas

Thanks

Addition info

Attic floor insulation consists of about 4" loose and then normal unfaced bats....

2 * 6 joists 1 * 3 strapping then the drywall of the ceiling below.

The attic has a gable vent at the peak at each end. Last winter I installed sofit vents on the north side. (the house did not have any originally)

I ducttaped and insulated a bath room vent the was ducted to the attic (we had never used this but it was open until this year.

HELP.......

Sounds like my house. North side or cold side only. Moisture is getting up there somehow. It is finding that real cold spot and forming ice. If there were no leaks from the living space of your house to the attic this would not happen. Check everything...you have pull down attic stairs....how about that bathroom, is it close to your problem? Seal everything tight and ventilate like you have started to do.
