hi, we're finishing half our basement into a family room... it only has one small window on that side, which is near the top of the wall (the ground slopes from front to back of our house- front is totally underground and back is totally above ground). I was wondering if there is any harm in making this window hole lower, and adding a second window in this wall, to get more light/air into the basement. Where the one window is now... will be half covered by the dropped ceiling tiles we will be putting in (right below the heat/ AC ducts). I don't want to ruin the structural safety of our foundation! The home is 45 years old. Thanks!

Others may have different opinions but I think that deepening the window would not be a problem. Widening or adding a window involves the structure of your house. I would talk to a quality contractor on this work.
Otherwise, could you adjust the drop ceiling to allow access to the window. Sort of a dormer in reverse.
