Hi all,

We're purchasing our first home and there is a pit for an old flood control system in the basement floor. I'm pretty sure it is not functional, at least the sump pump has been removed. The inspector that we hired suggested that these systems are typically installed outside the home now, which is what I always thought. My question is how to best fill in the hole so that we can level the floor and install carpeting or tile? I've attached a pic of the hole.

I appreciate any advice!
Thanks,
JC

Before someone suggested they are normally installed outside the home one has to ask

What is the frost level and what kind of water infiltration was there that they did install this pit?
