We have a vacation home that during the winter is not used as frequently. We plan on going up to the home every 6 to 8 weeks during the winter. We turn the water to the house off while we are away due to freezing temperatures (to avoid frozen pipe issues). My question is, can we leave the gas hot water heater on "Vacation" setting the entire time we are gone or should we be shutting the pilot down and relighting every time we go? I read something that indicates hydrogen could build up in vacation mode and be dangerous.... I need advice!
