Hello,
I am working on my kitchen and have some Custom work to do,
Please view my Photos, and make a suggestion: How to Finish this
off. I was hoping to box in the Short 2x4 wall section to look like a column, Custom. I will try to post a sketch of an idea I had.
Thanks

You could face off the 2 2ft surfaces with 3/4" oak or birch plywood. Cap off the 2 end surfaces with regular wood cut to the proper width and this will cover up the plywood edges. The best way to do this would be to miter around but this would be tough to do without the proper tools. You could go to a local wood shop with measurements and have them miter them.
For the inlay on the bottom, use a 1x3 to create the frame and tack it to the plywood. Cap it off with a piece of trim on top.
Hope it goes well for you.
