Bvbasement
I own an old farmhouse with a completely unfinished dirt basement. The basement has a sump pump that works fine. I have two problems one is water coming in during a rain storm which quickly gets pumped out (so not so much of a problem). My bigger concern is the high condensation buildup on everything during the summer months. I was considering putting down 6 - 8 mil plastic and/or possibly gravel to reduce moisture but will this cause a problem when the heavy rain arrives? Are the plastic and gravel a good idea? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Greetings houseproblem,

You raise some good questions I can't help with (such as, do you really want to cover wet soil with plastic)--but I wonder, does your basement have adequate ventilation?

Yes good point. I have two standard size basement windows on each side of the house, maybe I should try a fan in each window to increase ventilation. Thanks.
