Also, we are planning on finishing the floor, either carpet or tiles. Is there anyway to insulate the concrete slab? Thanks for any advise.

- cracks on new concrete slab
We had completely redone our foundation and the new concrete slab was poured about 8 months ago. We have been noticing a few hairline cracks across the slab and appears to be widening but no more than 1/8" wide. The slab was poured all at once without any expansion joints. Should this be a concern? What can be done to seal the cracks and prevent moisture penetration or further cracking if necessary?
Hairline cracks in concrete foundations and walls are to be expected and should not be of concern so long as these cracks remain somewhat stable.You may also notice that the width of the crack(s)fluctuate with the seasons.As for your second question,other than the mastic used for tile or carpet,you really don't want to keep the cement from breathing.A dehumidifier will reduce the moisture in the air which is prevelant in most basements.If this is a slab and no basement,you shouldn't have a moisture problem.
