I would like to finish a room in my basement and make it a bedroom. I understand that an egress window is required by code for the room to be considered a bedroom. Are there other codes that would be required before the room could officially be considered a bedroom? One specific question I have is, can the electric service panel be in the bedroom? If so do I need to cover it with some kind of locked cabinet?
