Hi,

I am brand new to yard care never having one before [grew up in apartments]. I have a lot of naturally growing bamboo in my yard. I have cut it down and now want to dig it up [eventually want to extend the lawn where this bamboo is growing and plant some shrubs] . There is a plastic-bag like layer under the dirt [not deep] that is sticking out, etc.

Do you have any idea what this might be and why it might be there?

Also as I dig out the Bamboo what kind of care should I take regarding this material--there are also trees in this area?

the plastic under the dirt was most likely put there as a weed barrier...by putting this plastic down weeds can't penetrate through and make the yard look crappy..

You should get more info about bamboo. It is very invasive and hard to get rid of. If you're not careful, it might take over.
