I am brand new to yard care never having one before [grew up in apartments]. I have a lot of naturally growing bamboo in my yard. I have cut it down and now want to dig it up [eventually want to extend the lawn where this bamboo is growing and plant some shrubs] . There is a plastic-bag like layer under the dirt [not deep] that is sticking out, etc.

Do you have any idea what this might be and why it might be there?

Also as I dig out the Bamboo what kind of care should I take regarding this material--there are also trees in this area?
