I recently bought a house that was built in the 50's. The previous owner had attic insulation blown in at a later time than it was originally built. However the owner has died so I don't know when it was blown in or what type of insulation it is. My father-in-law says it is asbestos, but my dad says it isn't.

The insulation is gray fluffy material. How do I identify what type of insulation this is and if it is possibly asbestos?

Grey fluffy material is probably cellulose, but asbestos insulation was in use at one time but largely in a granular type insulation.

If you are concerend see if you can get a free analysis from an asbestos abatement company.
