I live in a 110 yr old house. Everytime it rains the basement fills with water about 4 to 5 inches deep. How can we fix the leaking basement when a pipe goes under the footer causing the leak in the basement ?

My Uncle has this problem. First plug the pipe with a rubber inflatable plug. Measure the pipe diameter & get that size. Second Get a sump pump, a hose and put it in. dig a hole in the lowest spot on the floor, drill some holes in a bucket put that in the hole put the sump pump in this & plug it in. Later a more permanant install can be done. The pump will automatically emty the sump {bucket) when it fills. C.

Well needless to say the pipe under the footer is for allowing the toilet in our barn to flush. So we can't plug the hole. Any way around that ?

It is not the sump pump that is the problem. It is rain and ground water that is leaking in not drain water.

leaking around a pipe...

you could put a new sump pump/pit at the bottom of that pipe.

there is also 'okum'(not spelled that way but). you pack it in around the pipe. old time plumbers stuff.

or there are epoxy injection kits for sealing around the pipe, when it's dry.

There is really no magic way to stop ground water from entering a basement. It can be pumped out. I was under the impression that from the first thread that it [the pipe] was a drain to carry groundwater away from the cellar. That had clogged or backed up over the years. I stand corrected now. C.
