I live in a one story 50+ year old house in Michigan. The basement walls are made of cinder block. The exterior of the blocks are deteriating. They are painted. I need to know what I can do to stop it? What I can do to repair any damage that is already done? Did the paint cause the deteriation?
Please give me any suggestions you might have!!!
Thank you!!

Hi Ali,
questions plz, do you mean that the Outside blocks that are 'above ground level' are deteriorating? Or, the blocks ya see in basement? Just wanna be sure....have any Pics?
You're sure it's the blocks and not the mortar between them? Also, are you sure it's not just efflorescence (though that usually shows up on the inside, I think)?
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am sure its the blocks themselves and not the morter in between. I am not sure what efflorenscene realy is. Do you?
Thank you,
Alisha

Hey Ali,
where in Mich are you? the blocks that are deteriorating, are they only along 1 wall/side of house or more? And is it the first course(row) or 2 of blocks 'just above ground level' that are in bad-shape or more? or maybe the blocks ya see in bad shape are at/near/behind a downspout?
