Help! I recently moved into a new home, and after losing my husband, am doing the 'home thing' by myself.
Can you tell me if there is such a thing as easy to open attic stairs? The one I have is 3 sections that fold out, but it's heavy and if I get it down, I can't put it back.
And...attic insulation, I'd say it's at least 120 degrees in my Texas attic. I've heard of radiant barrier and ventilators. I have about 10 inches of regular insulation. Any thoughts on what we be better to keep my home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter?

Sorry I can't help you with the attic door problem. I guess you could remove the stairs from the door and use a ladder when you need to get up there. There are also insulated attic doors avail.
As for the heat. You may need a fan to exhaust your excess heat.

If your willing to have some work done, you could seal the attic door up, and place one somewhere else, where it would be convenient to have a permanent staircase installed. Thats probably the most convenient arrangment, although you may not want to go to the trouble and expense.
As for the heat in your attic I have heard about solar powered attic evnts and fans, that seamed very interesting from the product descriptions, although I haven't tried them myself.
