I have read other comments about a sump pump that kicks on a lot. My sump pump was installed last year. Before that we had water in our basement only during the wet seasons (New England). Our sump pump has gone on every minute, no kidding, every minute since it was installed in April 2006. Is this normal? The company that installed it says its normal if we are in a high water area. I know that but why is the pump kicking on even when its very very dry outside? We have a well on our property. Is there any way they tapped into that when installing? You can hear water constantly running to the pump.

It seems like your water table was higher than expected. Maybe the pump was set too low in the ground or maybe you can adjust this with the float to get beyond this point.

Have you tried shutting off the pump to see how high the water level rises?

I would suggest you contact the installer of the pump.

I also live in New England (greater Boston)and have noticed a lot of my customers have complained about higher than usual water levels.
