Any Arborists out there? Our 80' Tulip Poplar was hit by lightning last night. One branch about 25' high is damaged with a 2' by 1' gouge down to the ground. Saw a website that said do not fill in the gouge with wound paint (I thought it was tar)because it could harbor insects. What can I do to help save this tree?

Find a reputable tree company in your area. Call them and ask that a certified arborist take a look at the tree. If it's valuable to you, it's worth spending a few bucks to have a pro tell you if it can be saved, and what needs to be done.

Wound paint is not recommended any more. Don't use it.
