I'm buying a home built in 1928 and need help identifying the insulation used in the attic. The insulation looks like sawdust but doesn't resemble anything I've seen before. Does anyone have an idea of what this may be? I'm worried that it may contain asbestos or toxic substances.

Frank,
If the insulation is in a batt between two vapor barriers, it is what's called balsam wool. I've seen it many times, and it does not look like it contains asbestos.
