What is the best way to insulate a fireplace on each side and at the rear? I want to fill in the gaps before the cultured stone is put in place. A salesperson at ********** said the any insulation for the home that DOES NOT HAVE a PAPER BACKING would be fine. Can anyone help? I don't want my house to burn down.

The firepace is a metal insert that goes into a chase. The framework for the chase is pressed plywood. Eventually on the outside of the chase will be cultured stone. I want to insulate it to keep as much air from coming into the house.
The chase will be framed and insulated in a typical fashion with R-factors set by your local codes.
The studs must be drywalled on the inside of the chase and may need to be fire-rated X-type gypsum board depending on the clearance and combustion requirements of the wood insert.
