We have added a room onto our house. The room has a "knock out" along one wall framed for a gas log firebox. Do I need to take any special consideration in type of insulation to use in the wall behind and around the firebox? Or is standard pink , paper faced batts ok to use?

The question is a bit hard to understand, but I assume you meant the addition has a recess framed in to accomodate a zero clearance gas fireplace. If so, you do not need to take special precautions. A zero clearance firebox is just that, it will usually have sheet metal stand-offs on the rear, top and sides just to ensure no combustible materials can come into contact with the outer skin.
Follow the manufacturer's instruction manual with regards to clearances to mantles and surround legs.
If you are installing true "gas logs" the firebox has to be approved for the gas logs you are installing. Gas logs are usually only installed in an existing masonry fireplace.
