I have a finished basement family room. I'm planning on adding to the minimal insulation, by re-doing the walls. One wall will be a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf system.

My question is whether I need to take down the existing drywall, and re-do it all from scratch, or if there is any benefit to leaving the existing wall, and adding the new insulation and drywall over top?
