I am installing a prehung french door in an opening between my family room and den. The opening is about 6 inches larger than the prehung assembly. I want to know whether I need to remove the drywall from the side wall studs and overhead header before shimming the prehung door. Also, how much room should I leave on either side and on top for shimming. Thanks in advance for the help!
