The contractor arrived yesterday morning after we had gone to work and called me on the phone. He said it would be an easy job. I asked if he would prime the new casings white so that we could paint it with the proper color later. He said yes.
When we got home, I saw there were vinyl forms where the wood was with thick white caulk beads around sealing the joint to the siding of the house. I thought about this for a minute and got real skeptical. Taking a putty knife to one corner, I pulled up the vinyl strip to find that they had not done anything more than nail them to still-there and still-rotten wood.
I'm furious! I'll be dealing with the contractor today but wanted to get the conventional wisdom here...
Rotten wood = remove rotten wood correct?
There's no evidence of the rot on the inside of these windows but I'm concerned about the extent of this job. Should I be replacing the casing on the outside or just going for the whole window?
