Do I need to "frame" an opening to install folding doors, or simply install a track?

The track has to be connected to something at the top - that would usually be a frame. The bottom parts might be screwed to the floor. Check the instructions before buying. There are different styles.

Most bifold door mount using a top and bottom pivot as well as a track. As long as you have something to mount the top pivot and track to, you won't need a frame.
