Recently put a storm door on my front door (which faces directly south). Now the glass in my storm door is acting like a magnifying glass and making the surface of the regular door too hot to touch. This is OK when I'm home because I can just open the front door, but I'm concerned what that intense heat will possibly do to the door since I'm not at home during the week and can't leave the main door open. Could the heat melt the rubber seal around the door? I have a brass doorknocker, kickplate and handle - could the heat damage any of these? Is there anything I can do? The only thing I thought of is raising the sweep on the bottom of the storm door so instead of being tight to the threshold, there is a gap there to let air in/out. Would this help at all? Thanks for the help.

Glass on storm door makes front door extremely hot
I would THINK if any damage is done, it would be more from UV rays than from the heat. Would it be worth considering having your screen door glass tinted - there are companies that will install "films" on site.
It may also be prudent to speak with the door manufacturer about this - we may be trying to solve a problem that is not there.
Good luck, Alan
I can't remember where I bought it, but I attempted to install Solar film on my car a few years ago - it was a nightmare so I gave up and took it to an auto tint shop.
Having said that, car windows have all sorts of curves etc to cope with. Your screen door would probably be relatively easy - being a flat surface. So I would say yes, you could do it yourself.
I think your USA equivalent to our Canadian Tire is Pep Boys? Try that source first and if not, then I'm sure there is a local auto tinting store that would sell you some film. Would it be too much trouble to take your door to their shop?
Good luck, Alan
