I'm replacing interior hollow core slab doors with hollow core 6 panel doors and have to trim about 3/8 off the width. Is it preferrable to take the wood off the hinge side where the cut doesn't show as much or should I take it off the latch side or doesn't it matter?

Also when trimming such as above, with a rotary hand saw and using masking tape on both sides, is there less chance for splintering to have the depth of the blade at it's greatest possible extent or set so it just barely goes through the door?

It is preferable to simply buy prehung six panel doors and remove the old prehung hollow core doors.

That way you do not have to mortise in hinges, cut the slabs nor bore new lockset holes.
