I want to wire my floor lamp so that I can plug it into wall and turn it on by wall switch. The plug is ready. When I opened the lamp and removed the switch and rheostat, I ended up with two white lines and two black lines that need to be attached to the two black cord lines that go to the plug. I do not know if I should wire white to white to black and black to black to black or if I should wire one side white and black to black and then the other side white and black to black.

I think there are 4 lines instead of two coming from the lamp socket because the lamp is a round florescent with two rings.

I have spliced wires before, just haven't a clue what to do with 4 instead of 2.

All ribbed together, then all non-ribbed together.
