We purchased a house where the previous owners were chain somokers . We were aware of it but got a godd deal on the house and would like some suggestions on what are some of the best ways to get the smell out. thank you

It depends on if you want to go the economical way or the easy way ;)

Kilz primer all walls. If you're tearing out flooring, consider kilzing the floorboards too.

The economical way involves a whole lot of sweat equity. Wash down the walls with a mild detergent and water on a well rung out rag. That removes the tar. Rug doctor the rugs. You can also place bowls of vinegar in rooms, close the doors and it will help pull out some of the smell. You can also get an ozone cleaning machine and go through each room systematically.
