Bvwindows
hello, I am getting estimates for all new windows in my house and would like to know if anyone has done business with Champion Windows they make their own windows. I guess they are well known, their factory is in Cincy Ohio. I would like to know how there windows would compare to a brand named Simonton 5500 series. These are vinyl double hung windows filled with argon gas and both are guaranteed for life. So far I like the champion though both are similar.

I don't knoiw either of these brands but carefully read the exclusions on that gaurantee. the normal lifespan for filled glass does not exceed twenty years.

Vinyl windows have had problems of various kinds in the past. So they now need confidence boosters like this to sell them. Will the company still be around in twenty years to replace them?

Vinyl windows have been around for a long time, and are the #1 option in replacement windows today. You should have no problem as long as the company uses virgin vinyl in their extrusions. One other feature I would be sure to get is double strength glass in both the inside and outside pieces of glass.
Both names you mentioned have made windows for awhile. Both are well known.
Not to confuse you more, if you are not convinced about one of these, you can also look at Alside, and Greatlakes. They are both window companies who make good products, and stand behind them.

Good Luck

I had all of the windows in my house replaced with millguard vinyl windows a couple of years ago. I got several bids and one thing I noticed was that there is quite a bit of markup (profit) in the window business. Prices varied quite a bit and I was able to negotiate the price down quite a bit. Good Luck !
