What type of grease or oil should I put on my garage door chain, tracks, springs, etc. It makes an awful squealing noise going up and down.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

Any light weight household oil will do when used about eery three months.

I prefer to use a spray Lithium grease from an auto parts store though. It will last over a year

Agree with Piffin; the lithium grease works great on the screw drive, etc.

Be sure to take a close look at the rollers--especially the upper ones. The ones on the bottom don't get much wear--as they just mostly ride the track vertically. The upper ones do most of the dirty work--they carry the weight of the garage door horizontally. Replace them if need be.

NOTE: take care! Garage doors are very HEAVY and should always be treated with respect. Be sure if you're doing maintenance that no kids, etc. are around. Good luck, and don't feel bad if you need to call in a pro to tune it up, balance it, check springs, etc.

-k.
