I painted the walls in my son's bedroom 2 years ago w/ VOC free paint. We have not been able to use the room. It has a chemical odor since the paint job. I washed the walls w/baking soda, placed wall paper over it,... didn't help. Please HELP!

Did you contact the manufacturer of the paint? A lot of times they can help you and sometimes they'll even send someone over to figure out the problem for free. If you don't get a response via e-mail, try their facebook page.

That said, is there a carpet in there? Is the carpet new? Are you sure that it's not the carpet?

I contacted the manufacturer of the paint, they refunded the $ for the paint but had no idea what the odor could be. There isn't carpet, but 2 years ago we installed laminate floor...terrible odor... took it off and had all natural already finished wood floor installed. The wall paint had never really dried, it was gloss and on touch it felt sticky after 2 years. I used dehumidifier, heater,... nothing helped. I wonder if I could place a new dry wall over the existing one that has the wall paper on it? Could that be a barrier to the odor?

I have a similar problem and wondered if the smell is left over from the laminate floors? I bought a house that had vinyl plank flooring (Allure Trafficmaster) in all the bedrooms. There is an overwhelming chemical smell throughout the house, even after removing the floors and particle board subfloors. I've now determined that the smell is coming from the walls, which I was told were all painted with Kilz2 and Behr paint. It is not a paint smell. I wonder if the fumes from the flooring got into the walls and are creating the continuing problem. My next step is to try sealing the walls with BIN primer. The house is unlivable (the fumes make me very ill) and I have not ever been able to move in. I'm a single mom with a 2-year-old and we have been homeless for 2+ months.

That is why it is better to put indoor plants to eliminate the bad odor caused by chemicals in our home to make a healthy environment.
