A second floor shower stall is leaking into an adjacent walk in closet. First reaction was to recaulk, then to replace the gasket in the drain (little known fact- recommended replacement is 7-10 years). Finally looked at single lever faucet. Took off the faceplate and now can see leak coming from the line that goes up to the shower head, which is vinyl attached to the copper faucet connection.

How is this repaired? Is a DIY possible?

Yes, I don't even see a fitting. It almost looks as if the vinyl was just stuck onto the metal pipe. I see nothing screwed down over it, which wouldn't be surprising.

I find it amazing how people still install "state of the art" plastic water /waste supplies and then wonder how come it fails

Recently I was called to replace PEX piping and fittings in a 27 story residential building. Thankfully 3 days after it was installed and there was no water damage to the floors below
