Have a concrete bulkhead stairway that was attached to the foundation by thru bolt & nut. My guess is that this was done just to hold in place until it was permanently installed and the surrounding soil was filled in. My question is this: could I now cut that nut & bolt off (see photo) flush to the foundation wall? I would like to install a sliding door and am not able to with that nut/bolt sticking out.

I think that's possible. Are you going to install the sliding door yourself?

Yes, I will attempt to install the slider myself. Not a cheap closet door type, but something very sturdy with hardware perhaps like a barn door slider. Haven't decided on the details yet until I know for sure that I can cut those nuts off to make the install possible.
