Hi, I've been researching to find a smoke detector & carbon monoxide detector that doesn't beep if the power goes out at the house. I'm not having any luck finding one. I have two dogs that are scared to death of the noise and every time it storms I'm afraid the power may have gone off and their in the corner peeing themselves.

Hi EvaRose,

If you have a hard-wired system, your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors will always beep when the system looses power. To avoid beeping detectors when you lose power, opt for battery-powered smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Battery-powered detectors will only beep when the batteries are running low.

It is also worth checking the backup batteries if you have a hard-wired system. The backup batteries -will- beep if they are low.

Another consideration is to look into a system like the Nest, which notifies you on your phone when the low battery prevents it from connecting to your in-home wifi.

Good luck!

Here are some smoke alarm options to consider in your research.
