I am sorry to tell you the quick fix will NOT work...we also have a new home [Oct '06] and MW windows hired a subcontractor to come and place small blocks of foam on inside corners to try and prevent all the ice build up on the inside of our windows.

It did NOT work.

Our builder, Pro-built homes in Mifflintown, PA has done nothing for us but has obviously decided these are junk windows and now installs Anderson windows in their homes they build. [After I told them about this site]

Be aware of modular home builders such as Pro-built homes...they use less than sub-standard quality products and will not back the products they place in your home.

We built our house in 1991 and used all wood MV windows. We painted and sealed them. A couple of years ago we noticed that the sills on each and every window was beginning to rot, even though the paint still looked fine. We've started to replace our windows with vinyl construction windows from Home Depot. I hope we have better success with these.

I had contacted MW about the clouding issues (moisture in between the panes)and they readily admitted that the window should be replaced and that it was a warranty issue. They said send the dimensions and they would send a replacement right away. I told them I didn't feel qualified to measure windows and install them myself. I was told that there were no sales reps in the area, but they could recommend an installer in the eastern part of the state.

Deltec picked up on the postings on this site and called me asking what the problem was. I explained, gave them the details of the window from the construction plans, and they said that they would be in contact with MW.

True to their word, a few weeks later, I got a call from MW that a replacementwindow had been shipped and someone would be contacting me to install it. I received a call from their sales rep ( who is in our area), we arranged a Saturday for installation, and on 5/19 the widow wasa replaced in about 30 minutes. Everything fit with the right beading, etc.

Will this window be any better than the one it replaced? I would like to think so, but in any event I have Deltec on my side.

I have not noticed any problems in 3 years except in winter, the air blows in on the sides where they come together. These vinyl double hung appear not to be leaking water,(how do I know for sure?), however these windows were installed in a icf "concrete" house.

Also how do I find out what the db rating is for wind pressure? thanks for the help. Edistobob

MOST CAUSES OF AIR LEAKAGE AT THE POINT WHERE A HUNG WINDOW MEETS IS DUE IS DUE TO THE WINDOW NOT GETTING SHIMMED AT THE CHECK RAIL (THE PLACE WHERE THE BOTTOM SASH MEETS THE TOP SASH) THIS CAUSES THE WINDOW SIDES TO BOW OUT AND CAUSES A GAP BETWEEN THE SASH AND JAMB OF WINDOW UNIT.

THANKS,

I have a 4000 square foot house that has sills rotting on mw windows. The finger joints let go at a year in the house on all my double and triple windows. The windows will not hold paint and the window sills have almost completely rotted away on 7 of 33 windows. I am trying to sell this house and MW will not return calls nor will the warranty department answer their phones. I have had a rep out to the house and they sent me new sashes for 13 windows which to me only admits guilt. Hang in there, maybe we just need to get together and file a class action suit against the manufacturer to get all of our windows replaced with windows of our choice at their expense. My windows are only 6 years old.
