At drain, the leak is between the outside of the pvc pipe and the lead joint. PVC is loose, I can wiggle the pipe with putty knife.
Tried caulking, but pvc pipe still loose. Afraid to caulk too hard or pipe may break. Any suggestions?

Kind of tough to tell what the problem is without seeing what it looks like.
I suggest you call a plumber or a experienced handyman.
If you need help finding a reputable plumber, click the " find a pro" tab at the top of the page.
May help you out
Thanks

When connecting PVC t a cast iron hub (caulked joint) Ideally the installer will use an adapter such as a 2" Galvanized or Brass nipple caulk that into the hub and then use a PVC x F adapter.. Never us PVC directly caulked int a hub

In some cases a plumber may caulk a 2" IPS Coupling into a cast iron hub then use a PVC x M adapter to save money rather then using a brass nipple r taking a chance of a galvanized nipple corroding in 20 r 30 years
