Does a sump pit with a drain tile system (tube pouring into pit) also need small holes near the base of the basin to allow ground water in? A plumber informed me that these holes were likely used for installation to get basin into some ground water.

Thanks.

Why would anyone want to allow ground water to enter a sump at the base?

By allowing water at the bottom of the sump is allowing sediment to enter the pit and this will cause premature failure of the pumps impeller not to mention under mining the pit walls
