My husband and I are buying a house that has, I believe, a metal front door with a rectangular glass inset framed w/wood trim. This 'window' looks like someone has attempted to pry it out. I would like to replace it without replacing the entire door. Can anyone give me any help with this project? Thanks in advance!

You need to replace the entire door if for no other reason than to assure proper insulation reasons.

It'll probably be easier, less expensive in the long run, and better, to replace the whole unit.
