Bvplumbing
We had a sump pump installed 5 years ago by water proofing company (in ground, not pedestal); we came home from vacation and found the closet it was in to be covered with mold and dripping moisture. Emergency call to plumber - who sent a "technician" to replace pump and noticed that the outflow pipe from the house was incorrectly installed and slanted upward. Tech claimed that this pipe (which also was a mixture of 1 1/2 leading into 1 1/14 caused the water to flow back into pump and pump failed as it tried to continuously pump out water. My neighbor had check my house and said he poured water into pump and the pump went on. We've replaced the pump, and are now faced with replacing the pipe so it doesn't slant and adjusting it to 1 1/2 in pipe. Of course, water proofing company that originally did the job doesn't return calls. Is it ok to use non plumber to do this job; he works for the plumber. My trust meter is set to low! Also, should there be remaining water in the pit at all times - below the float? THANKS and Help with comments plz. It a Zoeller pump with backup.

Always ask to see the plumbing license

Once someone says they are a "tech" ask them if the week before if they were a copy machine tech or a dental tech or an X ray tech or a electronics tech?

The use of the term tech in plumbing actually means they are sending an idiot to your home or office that cannot pass the simplest testing for journeymen and thus this moron to make them feel good about themselves they call them a tech to beat most licening laws.

ALWAYS ask to see the plumbing license of the person doing the actual work as the licenses are for your protection not the license holder..

About slanting upwards being bad I had better run back to the building I just completed and have the 4" discharge pipe replaced as it is pumping up 20 feet then horiziontal for 30 feet then up another 25 feet to connect to the 10" sanitary sewer.

Water remaining in a pit /sump is normal and all sump pumps/ sewer ejectors should be tested (flushed) from time to time to prevent stagnation of the water in the pit /sump

Here is an example of an installation we did NOTICE the piping from the sump
