Removed fiberglass tub/shower insert from second story bathroom and want to convert to walk-in shower versus another tub/shower. The problem is the 1-1/2" drain pipes.

If you want to convert a tub/shower to a walk-in shower, can you extend the bottom 1-1/2" drain to the middle of the proposed shower and lower the existing overflow drain on the wall to just below the height of the new shower dam versus trying to convert all the 1-1/2" drain pipe to 2"? Wouldn't this provide just as much drainage as the tub? i.e. It would drain like a very shallow tub.

Get as close as possible to the stack, where the tub was enters the vertical stack replace the 11/2" pipe with a 2" pipe If this is not possible.

Then still being as close to the stack use a No hub coupling 11/2 x 2" and then run a 2" line with a 2" P trap for the shower waste

ALSO make sure the lie is snaked and totally clear
