I just bought this house and was planning to refinish the basement. I went to the County to pull a permit and was told I am only allowed to have renovation unless the window is 20x24 minimum when open. My windows are not that big.

I am wondering what it takes to make a new window. The basement is solid cement and the foundation is barely 24" high. Who should I hire? A general contractor? What would a job like that run?

PS I can't seem to pull up the threads on my questions. Has anyone had this problem?

You need an emergency egress from the basement.......that needs a large window well and a large window......

BILCO has a modular system for a window well.....try their scapewel system

Check the yellow pages for "concrete sawing/cutting"......depends where you are.....about a couple thousand $ for the sawing.......

"...measure once.....cut twice....throw that one away and cut a new one...."
