Hi, we need to replace out old basement hopper style windows with a type that would be more secure. The windows that we have now could very easily be broken in as they're simply glass panes. We were considering impact resistant awning windows that althou we don't live near the coast I understand that these windows are hard to 'break in' also? Anderson gave me a price of $445. ea for a 19 by 30 1/2 size awning. Does this sound right you? Does anyone have any thoughts on Pella?
Thanks you!

Glass block is the most secure. It's also cheaper than Anderson or Pella windows.
Glass is glass and if you want it broke it will break. There is no way around that unless you want to brick up the openings.

That price of $445 a piece is way too high. Try another company or tell Andersen you won't pay that much to give you a better price. More like $250-$325 for that size. Don't pay over $325 for a window that big installed in a basement. I assume they are going into brick or concrete block. Correct?
HI thanks for your helpful response. It looks like we're going to go with glass blocks and am now in the process of researching the best way to install.,

NOTHING WILL WITHSTAND A KICK AS FAR AS A WINDOW GOES UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPEND $1,000 FOR A LAMINATED SECURITY WINDOW OR COVER A EXISTING WINDOW WITH A GRATE OR BARS BUT HE WAS WANTING INFORMATION ON TYPES OF WINDOWS AVAILABLE AND I GAVE IT TO THEM. AND PLUS ACRYLIC BLOCK IS EASIER TO REPLACE THAN GLASS BLOCK.

If security is the main concern for this person. Could I take a crow bar and wedge that window open you showed them with the real pretty, over-expensive glass panel in it? YES! Can I take a crow bar and wedge glass block with cement between each block open? You know the answer. This person doesn't care about price or maybe you can't read. Glass block is cheaper and a hell of a lot more secure than that window you showed off.
