We have a Craftsman 1/2 HP garage door opener, model 139.53966SRT, age unknown. It was initially getting to about the sensor when it would stop going down and reverse. I tried lubing the tracks and chain, which helped for a few days. Today the door wouldn't move at all. The motor hums when I press the button, but the chain doesn't move at all. Any suggestions on what to look for? Thanks

I don't have access to the Sears manuals.
But this should be a very similar Chamberlain.

Look at the trouble shooting on page 34 steps 10 through 15.
If the sensor was blocked you could get a flashing light.
It sound like over force problem and now binding.
Disconnect the door and make sure that the door is operating properly. You should be able to raise and lower it by hand without any binding at any point. And the door should be balanced.
If the door is OK then still with the door disconnected try the opener.
Look at the trolley and make sure that it is not worn. Make sure that all the rail is tight and that change is taught.
