We are renovating our house. The only part of the top floor that the contractor was supposed to do was sand & stain the upper hardwood hallway and put new doors & trim on the bedrooms. The new doors were too long, so he cut a big square in the carpet of each of the bedrooms so the doors could open inwards. He says that he did this because if we wanted to redo the bedrooms later in hardwood there would be a huge gap underneath which wouldn't look good. He also added that the doors were expensive and that he could put some kind of trim around the cut square to make it look better. All the bedrooms are carpeted and we were not thinking of renovating them for a long time (& for some of them I think I would've still wanted carpeting). The hardwood underneath the carpet is light and the hallway hardwood was stained dark. Any suggestions on what I should do now?
